The power of ads rests more in the repetition of obvious exhortations than in the subtle transmission of values. - Michael SchudsonToo Simple?

I have gotten some email comments saying that some of the articles I’ve published have been too simple or too basic. Are they? I know that some, like the Introduction to Constructors and Destructors in VB.NET article, have very rudimentary information. The inspiration for writing this kind of article comes from seeing VB related forum posts that ask these kinds of questions. I answered them in the articles, hopefully in more depth than a forum post can do it. It’s my belief that for every one VB.NET expert that there are dozens of novices that are either entirely new to programming or are transitioning VB6′ers new to the OOP and other new concepts in VB.NET.

What do you think is too simple for an article? Leave me a comment and let me know.

Ad Notes

I’m trying out Shopzilla over the next week or so and see how it works for this site. I’ll probably tinker with the ads some more over the next few days so if you see a weird page or two it might be when I trying things out. Just refresh after a moment or two if this happens.

My Thoughts on Ad Blocking

There has been some talk in recent days about ad blocking in Firefox, with some sites even redirecting all Firefox users to a separate landing page. I don’t think this is a good idea at all. People who block ads are unlikely to click on ads in the first place. Of course, many sites, such as this one, are ad supported, so keep this in mind if you do block ads. Ultimately, your ad-free browsing might kill off many a worthwhile site that couldn’t afford to stay up and, in the end, lead to a mostly subscription based model for good content (yuck!). If you do block ads but still want to support what I’m doing on this site, use the “Buy Me An Espresso” PayPal donation links.

Coming Up Next Week

Right now I’m not sure what topics I’ll be posting on next week. I’ve got a few XML related topics I’ve got outlined plus I’ve had a few requests for ADO.NET tutorials. I’ll probably also have some new general software development articles.

If there is a topic that you would like for me to cover or if you noticed something that I didn’t cover well enough or accurately, please leave me a comment or email and let me know.
